Subsequent advances in technology, intensive care and sophisticated non invasive procedures have widened the scope of neurosurgical practice to include oncology services and neurovascular as well as trauma.<\/p><p>The principle sub-specialties of neurosurgery<\/p><ul><li>Paediatric neurosurgery \u2013 treatment of children accounts for 10-15 per cent of neurosurgery and includes facial anomalies and congenital spinal defects as well as tumours and other rarer conditions.<\/li><li>Neuro-oncology \u2013 the management of brain and spinal tumours.<\/li><li>Functional neurosurgery \u2013 the management of a wide range of problems including epilepsy, spasticity and movement disorders.<\/li><li>Neurovascular surgery \u2013 surgeons work closely with interventional colleagues dealing with complex aneurysms and abnormal or narrowed blood vessels.<\/li><li>Traumatology \u2013 head injury remains a major cause of death and disability in children and young adults. Research shows that prompt neurosurgical intervention and neuro-intensive care leads to substantially better outcomes.<\/li><li>Skull-base surgery \u2013 advances in microsurgery, surgical approaches and reconstructions have been incorporated into routine practice of surgeons dealing with disorders of the skull-base and skull base tumours.<\/li><li>Spinal surgery \u2013 due in part to an increased elderly population the subspecialty account for more than 50 per cent of department workloads.<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>Main operations<\/strong><\/p><p>Neurosurgeons undertake operations for a wide range of conditions affecting the central nervous system spine and peripheral nerves including:<\/p><ul><li>The removal of brain, spinal and skull based tumours<\/li><li>Managing trauma to the head and spine<\/li><li>Prolapsed discs and other degenerative spinal conditions<\/li><li>Infections and infestations<\/li><li>Strokes, in particular haemorrhages due to cerebral (brain) aneurysms (a weakness in the wall of a cerebral artery) and other malformations<\/li><li>Epilepsy<\/li><li>Movement disorders including advanced Parkinson\u2019s diseases using deep brain stimulation surgery (DBS) which involves the implanting of a \u2018brain pacemaker\u2019 sending electrical impulses to specific parts of the brain<\/li><li>Some psychiatric disorders<\/li><li>Congenital malformations of the nervous system including spina bifida.<\/li><li>Hydrocephalus and other disturbances of cerebro-spinal fluid flow<\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div style=\"margin: 20px 0;\"><div class=\"qrcswholewtapper\" style=\"text-align:left;\"><div class=\"qrcprowrapper\"  id=\"qrcwraa2leds\"><div class=\"qrc_canvass\" id=\"qrc_cuttenpages_2\" style=\"display:inline-block\" data-text=\"https:\/\/mehrmashhadhospital.ir\/en\/neurosurgery\/\"><\/div><div><a download=\"Spinal\/Neurosurgery.png\" class=\"qrcdownloads\" id=\"worign\">\r\n           <button type=\"button\" style=\"min-width:100px;background:#c8fd8c;color:#000;font-weight: 600;border: 1px solid #dddddd;border-radius:4px;font-size:12px;padding: 6px 0;\" class=\"uqr_code_btn\">Download QR<\/button>\r\n           <\/a><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Spinal\/Neuro Surgery Neurosurgery Neurosurgery encompasses the diagnosis, assessment and surgical management of disorders of the nervous system.
